Cub Scout packs and dens are run by adults in the pack who volunteer. No experience is necessary. Our needs come in many sizes and forms; there's a task to meet every adult's availability. Not every helper wears a uniform or title.
Cub Scouts isn't just fun for the youth; it can be fun for you too. Being involved will make the Scouting experience more meaningful for you and your child, and it helps you connect with the other adults in the pack. Plus, if everyone volunteers for something, then no one has to do too much. Brownsburg adults have continued to make our pack operate since its founding in 1965.
Contact our Committee Chair to start volunteering.
“Happiness is open to all, since, when you boil it down, it merely consists of contentment with what you have got and doing what you can for other people.” — Baden-Powell, founder of the Scouting movementFor positions that require a formal registration with background check, our pack will reimburse the processing fee after any relevant training is completed. All registered volunteers are encouraged to earn the Scouter's Training Award and attend Wood Badge leadership training.
We have a monthly planning meeting that all adults are welcome to attend. It usually occurs on the 3rd Tuesday of the month; You'll find the details under the Adults subgroup in Spond. All adults are also welcome to attend "BALOO" camping training, the annual University of Scouting, and the Five Creeks District Roundtable.
Volunteer needs are generally divided into two categories. Program delivery is for the youth-facing roles that make the fun happen for our Scouts. Administrative support is for the adult-facing roles that are needed to enable the program delivery to happen.
The Cubmaster and den leaders, along with their assistants, are the most visible volunteers. They work directly with youth to deliver fun programming that enables our Cub Scouts to complete adventures and earn their badge of rank. The uniform is a method of Scouting and is strongly preferred for these registered roles. Help from other adults is also needed for program delivery.
Cub Scouts is the best age range to be directly involved with making the fun happen. Once your child finishes Cub Scouts and transfers to a Scouts BSA troop, the program planning and delivery is done by the older Scouts in the troop. The pack committee handles our administrative needs with help from event coordinators and other adults. Most adult questions and needs should be directed to the pack committee or the volunteers for a specific event. This allows our den leaders and Cubmaster to focus on serving our Scouts. New Member Coordinators work with new adults so that other volunteers can focus on their role. Help from other adults is also needed for administrative support.
At every level of Scouting, there are three key people. For our Cub Scout pack, the Key 3 positions are the Cubmaster, Pack Committee Chair, and Chartered Organization Representative (a.k.a. "COR"; a member from our chartered organization Friends of Brownsburg Scouting). These positions have full access to unit tools in my.scouting.org.
We must fill these Key 3 positions, plus at least two committee members and at least one den leader, to renew our annual charter every year.Vanessa H.
