So you've discovered what Cub Scouts is, and you're interested in joining Cub Scouts? That's great! All families are welcome, regardless of finances or ability. You may join anytime.
Cub Scout Pack 396 serves boys and girls in grades K–5 around Brownsburg, Indiana. We meet on some Tuesdays. Our dens (each grade) meet once or twice per month, and our pack (all grades) meets once a month. That's a total of two or three meetings per month for your family to enjoy. Most of our programming is during the school year, but there are optional summer activities too.
Join online, and one of our volunteers will contact you with more info about what's next. We look forward to meeting you in person!
There are two main costs: national membership paid during joining, and pack dues paid after joining. See our pack's info sheet for current pricing.
If you need assistance with the cost, please ask. You'll need to provide a financial application and youth application.
New uniforms are purchased by your family. However, after joining you can ask us about our uniform repository. A Scout is thrifty, and we'll help you save money where we can.
"Are youth with special needs welcome?" Yes, let us know about your specific needs, and visit ablescouts.org/toolbox to learn more.
"Do we have to be experienced campers?" No outdoor experience is required. Scouting is a great way for both youth and adults to develop new skills.
"Is Cub Scouts religious?" All Scouts are reverent — they respect the beliefs of others — but our pack does not require or promote any specific religion. Any requirements related to Family & Reverence can be addressed at home. We welcome people of all backgrounds.
"What comes after Cub Scouts?" Youth ages 11–17 may join the Scouts BSA program (formerly Boy Scouts). Ask Troop 396 (boys) or Troop 3960 (girls) for more information. Youth ages 14–20 may join the Venturing program. Ask Crew 396 for more information.
"How is Cub Scouts different from Boy Scouts?" The Cub Scout program is adult-led and provides ready-made opportunities for families to enjoy fun activities together. The Scouts BSA program (formerly Boy Scouts) is youth-led and aims to help young people develop self-confidence and leadership skills by tasking them with the responsibilities of planning and carrying out activities and generating achievements. Youth in a Scouts BSA troop decide on fun activities and goals, while their adult leaders are providing a safe and encouraging environment to enable the youth to succeed. Venturing is also youth-led and focuses on adventure, leadership, personal development, and service.
